Yes Virginia It’s True: 2 New York Landmarks Lost.
Very shortly two New York City landmarks will be erased from our skyline. Each sad and each for strikingly different reasons:
The Lord and Taylor Department Store, a haven for “affluent” shoppers since the 1950s, has always been known as much for it’s opulent Christmas window displays as for its upscale fashions, may soon be closing its doors forever.

Another testament to our ever-evloving city…but Fifth Avenue will never be as elegant without you.
I will especially miss the lovely little tea sandwiches after a morning of shopping with mom.
And in stark contrast, the building that has shadowed “Ground Zero” for the last 5 years is finally being dismantled, as a result of such drastic and hazardous damage. (God only knows why, but human body parts continue to be found at this site).

Oddly for me, this news is disturbing because not only has it been the guardian of the lost souls of those grounds.
But somehow its largness acted as my last touchstone to the idea that maybe 9/11 had never happened.
Auf Wiedersehen.

WOW! Lord and Taylor closing forever? The world has changed so much within the past 10 years. It’s scary

Hi Jenny,
Yes…it’s as if someone just told me that there are no more department stores.
A financial services firm is taking over the historic building…seriously.
