Woman of God

by Tracee Sioux on March 10th, 2008

hillary and faith

I know some Republicans think they have the copyrights to God and Christianity - or at least Republican pundits on talk radio and television do. But that’s completely untrue.

There is a really moving article about Hillary Clinton as a woman of God on CBNews:

Hillary Clinton: I believe in the father, son, and Holy Spirit, and I have felt the presence of the Holy Spirit on many occasions in my years on this earth.

Reporter: Can I ask you theologically, do you believe that the resurrection of Jesus actually happened, that it actually historically did happen?

Senator Clinton: Yes, I do.

Read the whole transcript here. It’s a fascinating article about Hillary’s relationship to God, to the Methodist Church where she is a member, and talks a bit about the prayer group she belonged to in Washington and how her faith guides her.

I love this Tracee! I’m a Christian and I’m sick to death of talk radio and other sources of information making me feel like Democrat = athiest or satan worshiper! I’m so sick of them telling me that “God’s way” is to build a big wall to keep out poor immigrants and to ignore global warming and to let the rich get even more filthy rich while the poor can’t even afford to go to the doctor and to create war instead of peace as long as it’s not on OUR soil! In fact that’s my biggest issue w/ Bush is that he collected votes from people who put their faith in his faith and conviction just to watch him rule w/ greed and (from what I can see) a complete lack of conviction on what I would call human issues. To me, true evil twists good intentions into bad actions. I would imagine God doesn’t like people using and twisting his word for their own person gain.

Also, she’s looks so beautiful in this picture - I’m going to go read this article.

This baby blue mini-van was ahead of me today in traffic. The driver of the van had put a big home-made sign on the back window that said, “STOP HILLARY!” I sped and passed the van to see who was driving it and it was an old geezer. I should have known…

My grandmother (who was very independent for her time) CANNOT STAND Hillary. And I can’t get any specific reason out of her. She’s an intelligent lady, who was in charge of the money during her marriage, wore pants instead of skirts, believes in educated, strong women..so I just can’t figure it out. It’s like there’s some sort of ingrained fear of a woman getting “too big for her britches.”

My mother has the same reaction. Also, no specific reason why she hates her. Can’t find anyone with a great reason. They’ll say, “Not a good role model.” But can’t explain what they mean by that.

I think women have this expectation that any presidential candidate should be “exactly like them.” Unfortunately, there are so many ways to be a woman that this is a completely impossible expectation to meet.

She’s said before that she’s “ambitious” (in a negative way) that she only stayed with her husband to get ahead in politics, that she’s too “ambitious”.

Now this is a woman that encourages ANYONE to work out a marriage, and that has pushed every one of her granddaughters into college, and wants us all to have successful careers.. Apparently, ambitious is only a bad word when coupled with Hillary Clinton..

My mom is the exact same, and yet I feel like if she really looked at it, she would see Hill is her dream candidate. She reminds me so much of Hillary - in charge and won’t take crap from anyone. Not willing to play second fiddle. Or be quiet. Or be submissive.

The marriage thing? It’s her personal business why she decided to stay and doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the election. Ambition? Point to any man who ran for Prez and you’ll see someone who is ambitious (and what’s wrong with being ambitious?)

Sexism is alive and well - I just wish it wasn’t women who I keep hearing the majority of these comments from.

The marriage thing is so silly - my grandmother strongly believes in ‘working it out’ and forgiveness..that’s what I’m saying, I don’t know what to make of it. I know good and well that if she had divorced him that would be the issue with some of these same conservative people who are slamming her right now for staying with him out of ambition. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

That’s how my grandmother is too: strong, independent thinker, deep thinker, educated, strong belief in education - for women too, family oriented, very ‘ambitious’ as a young woman…I don’t understand it.

    It is a puzzle.

One possibility is that they do not see themselves the way you see them.

Or maybe they enjoy being the exception to the rule - rather than the rule.
