What the Bleep Do We Know?
Quantum Physics.
I’m fascinated by quantum physics. Near as I can tell quantum physicists are on a search for God and they’ve found him. Not so as they can prove he exists to YOU, but they’ve definitely been close enough that there’s no doubt in their own minds.
Two things in this film were super-fascinating to me: it’s theories on addiction psychology and it’s theories on our purpose for being here.
The film explores how our perceptions shift with new information.
Quantum physics has some very interesting explanations about what causes addiction and how one can recover from addiction.
I’ve been addicted in my life: cigarettes and Xanex to name two substances that have previously had complete and total control over me.
But, this film explores how we can be addicted to anything that creates a path for dopamine in our brains.
Emotions: Anger, rage, anxiety, horniness or lust, depression, falling in love or infatuation can all be addictions.
Depressed and anxious? Maybe you’re addicted to the emotional kickback of those feelings?
Relationships can be addictive. Both the good and bad ones.
Ever wonder why a battered woman keeps going back? Maybe she’s addicted to the fear, the love, the good feelings when the batterer desperately begs her to stay and declares his unworthy love for her.
Ever wonder why some people tend to go from one monogamous relationship to another? Maybe they’ve been married more than 3 times and you’re wondering what their problem is.
According to Quantum Physics they are addicted to the dopamine they get from “falling in love” and when love shifts to commitment and the don’t get their falling in love fix anymore, they jones for it, break up and find someone new.
Having been addicted to both substances and the emotions of anxiety and depression in my past I find the idea that I have the power to create new pathways for dopamine to be plausible, effective and liberating.
When quitting smoking, for instance, I found that I could replace the dopamine I used to get from inhaling nicotine with dopamine from exercise.
The same holds true for the anxiety that caused my Xanex addiction. I had to replace those dopamines with deep breathing and calming techniques and feelings of power and activity.
Once I mastered the skill and realized I could recover from an addiction by rerouting the pathways in my brain - as they illustrate in the film - it becomes easier when confronting the next addictive behavior, feeling or substance.
The other element of this film’s definition of Quantum Physics that I find facinating is our purpose.
Our, as in human beings’, purpose for being on Planet Earth.
Quantum Physicists answer the question, “Why are we here? Why do we exist?” with “To create.”

Tracee,
It’s so funny you posted about this movie because it’s one of my favorites and I even listed it in my “favorite movies” when I built my new blog the other day! I LOVE this movie. I’ve borrowed from my local library several times. That’s actually where I heard of it/found it. The special features are awesome too! Marlee Matlin is so awesome! There is another “bleep” movie too. I thought it was a sequel but I read a review of it online once and it sounded like just an expanded version of the original. It’s called “What the Bleep - Down the Rabbit Hole”, I think. I haven’t seen it. I think it has a bonus disc or someting. Another quantum physics movie for you: The Elegant Universe. I think it was a NOVA special.

Sounds very intriguing. I doubt our library here (overseas military installation has it), wonder if I can get it on Netflix.

What the bleep is an excellent movie. Nancy, you will be surprised if the library has the movie. I am sure the MWR facility will have it as well. Wonderful movie and worth watching over and over again.

All,
This (What the Bleep Do We Know?) is truly an amazing movie. Any way you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend it!
I’ve watched it numerous times. Most movies I have no desire to watch multiple times.
This movie is so deep that repeated watchings are worthwhile.
I hope you can find it/order it somehow. It’s fantastic!
