The Golden Globe Awards

I’m assuming that everyone is watching The Golden’s tonight…you know, the award show where, if you win, you say “I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign press”…and not all those folks who plop down hard earned cash to go see some of this slop.

If there is one person I want to win, it is Meryl Streep for “The Devil Wears Prada.”

I know it’s a silly-ish film…but since I started my career in publishing, there were many scenes in it that seemed so relevant to me.

Especially, the character Ms. Streep played…she reminded me of my first crazy boss in publishing, who once said to me in a very soft, ironic yet totally vicious tone of voice:

“Darling, if you can’t learn to Xerox properly, you’ll never amount to anything in publishing.”

I cried…went out for drinks and commiserated with my pals…but then, got pretty far in publishing…I learned a lot.

I will Never, ever forget her mean comment…but at the same time, I took her comment seriously and did in fact learn to present my work correctly and with pride.
