The Best Way To Paint A Room
It’s as predictable as seeing holiday table wreath articles all over the place in December:
The Spring Clean-Up tips stories: get your carpets steamed, clean the oven, empty out the spice rack (I still do not remember why I bought Chinese five spice and Herbes de Provence, with lavender).
I am such a horrible house-keeper…and not because I have any repressed thoughts about how today’s woman shouldn’t be bothered with the home-management details that our fore mothers did, I just never learned…any of it!
Which would make my mother an outcast of her generation or a women’s lib leader.
I do keep trying though.
Three weeks ago, I decided that our tv room needs to be freshened up. So, with all great Spring-cleaning intentions in my head, I run to our local paint store…and Lo…little mini jars of paint samples!
I would buy three in: Warm Cream, White Cream and Yellow Cream…and the cute tiny foam applicator with which to paint test squares on my wall.
The jars sat in a nice little pyramid stack for weeks, unopened–I just don’t know why. Fear maybe?
Then two days ago, I thought this is ridiculous…just get the test paint on the wall and pick a damn color already.
So, that’s what I did. I even had a #2 pencil to mark which color went with which jar.
Hubby hadn’t even noticed the 3 uneven squares–of mostly identical colors–until I pointed them out.
And really, he had to have seen them, they were strategically placed next to the closet door where he has to get his work clothes every morning.
It’s almost Everybody Loves Raymond in its passive-aggressiveness.
The message to me unspoken is this. I don’t know what color to choose…so you choose one. I don’t paint well…so you paint or call the guy. I’m not sure I’m ready for this amount of change…so don’t change anything.
(No, I wasn’t exactly honest either…did I ever ask him outright to paint the room? Nope 25 years of marital experience with such matters, told me it would be fruitless.)
When this job is completed…the magazines will be featuring “Fabulous Halloween Lawn Balloons That You Can Do Yourself!”
