Incredible Shrinking Torso
I’ve kept this shirt for 4 years because I am waiting . . .
for my torso to shrink
or the shirt to lengthen 2 inches.
I’ve got this crazy entitlement issue with my shirts. I feel I should be allowed to move my arms without showing my stomach.
The one with the pink scarf too. My mother bought them for me and it feels ungrateful to admit they don’t fit. What’s the statute of limitations on this?
My torso not only has to shrink for the striped one to fit, but my boobs do too. I’m holding out because shrinking boobs is a possibility.
I invested an entire quarter, that’s 25 cents at a garage sale, in the brown shirt.
That’s worth losing a few inches of torso isn’t it? Have you ever seen a shirt that has the ability to grow?
This is when frugality becomes a mental health issue.

Tracee - I always assumed the short shirt problem was only for ‘Amazon woman’ types like myself; are the shirts actually getting smaller?

I used to think that too - and it probably was true once upon a time.
I am 5′4″ and do not have a long torso by any imagination.
I think they make shirts for 17 year olds whom they assume want their belly to show a little like in fashion magazines.

i completely agree. Every regular shirt always fits other women though! i watch other women, wearing the shirts i wanted to buy but can’t, and they go about their daily lives, lifting up their kids, and the shirt stays put! i feel like i’m constantly pulling down my shirts. i also have resorted to wearing longer tank tops under shirts i particularly like but simply can’t wear alone. i’m liking this trend right now, with the long, full shirts, but i’m sure it won’t last.

Stock up Jessica. That’s what I have figured out. If you dig a trend you have to understand that in 6 months it will be over and they’ll be back to short shirts and short shorts.
I’m so wishing I had bought about 10 pair of those long shorts Old Navy had last year. I bought about 4 of those long tanks they had a few years ago - but now they’re just sadly tattered.

Tracee, target always has long tanks. I wear them under my too short shirts, and it looks way cute. I have the too short problem because my boobs are so big. Frustrating.

You should tell all the women who incessantly chattering about how they need/want a boob job about that problem of yours Jen.
I’m taking that Target tip. I’ve never looked for a tank there.

Between the short shirts, the lowcut/ill-fitting shirts, and the jeans/pants that don’t even come up past my hips (much less hug them) I end up feeling like Chris Farley in David Spade’s coat!

Most of my tops are not too short. I’m very picky about lenghts though. And you know what I’ve done to my boobs Tracee! :)
And my doctor told me a few weeks ago I have a very long torso. I wasn’t sure how to take that. Umm, thanks?

Maybe it’s a matter of picky Rebecca. You’ll notice my tops were either given to me or picked up at a garage sale. I probably wouldn’t have this problem if I’d been pickier.
Really, my issue is not only with the way the clothes were made - it’s with myself.
What is my problem? Why can’t I pass them on or throw them into a thrift store bag? Why am I hoarding them for 4 years and expecting them or me to change?
By the way - I do not judge your boob job Rebecca. I really don’t.
I do think it’s interesting that women with naturally big boobs complain about the way clothes fit them and women with small boobs complain about the way clothes fit them.

I am a total opposite of you though, I love going through my closet and weeding out what I haven’t worn in a couple of years. My mom was like you though. When she passed away, there were clothes in her closet (and in storage, go figure) that she hadn’t worn since I was a very small child, and I was 30 when she died. Hello. What is the point of that??

My grandmother has a barrel full of her mother’s clothes. When I suggested they be used to make a quilt she found that offensive.
Those clothes are going to Goodwill ASAP. I’m weeding out more.

I guess I’m the opposite of your grandmother.. I couldn’t wait to get rid of my mom’s clothes. I felt weird even taking a necklace that my dad gave me of hers. But I’m glad I have it. But at least that’s something I could potentially wear. (If I wore jewelry, natch.)

I’m still trying to figure it out. I think in the back of her head she’s thinking there’s a possibility that someone might wear them again someday.
Which, if you saw the 1800s Pioneer woman way my great-grandmother dressed - with sun bonnets and everything - it would be so funny you might pee yourself if you saw someone wearing it again.

I think a quilt made of those clothes would be and awesome thing to pass down..it would be cool to incorporate pieces of clothes from you and your daughter too maybe?

See I thought that would be totally cool too. Incorporate even my grandmother’s and mother’s clothes. Then it would be a quilt made of 5 generations of women’s clothes. Imagine how cozy it would be to snuggle up in that.
But, I guess I’ll have to wait till my grandmother passes on. I think those clothes will stay in the barrel until then.
