Opportunities For Women and Minority Run Businesses.

by Kim on December 27th, 2006

In researching how The Pet Set might become a vendor at one of the larger department stores here in the U.S., it became apparent that in order to qualify, my company would have to be either owned and run by women (me) or by a “minority” group or both.

I thought if there were any of you out there who do own or plan to own a business, you might want to look into two groups in particular: National Minority Supplier Development Council and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.

The application process is lengthy and detailed in both cases…but I think the benefits will be rich.

Not only might I become an official vendor of one of these stores, but the resources available to a business such as mine could be quite valuable.

And if you do not own a business of your own, you might want to become a catalyst within your own firm to promote the importance of doing business with women owned companies.

After all…women do business differently and better.

Kim–great info! I have always wanted to develop my own skin care line (it WILL happen…someday). In the meantime, I’m an event planner and media rep for my husband who is embarking on his screenwriting and animation career. Thanks for stopping by GirlPaint, by the way, and thanks for your comments. I have been in contact with Shei to see if B5 would allow me to migrate GirlPaint over, but to no avail…oh, well. She’s a great contact to have nonetheless! Happy New Year, K…

    Hi K,

Thanks so much for stopping by…Shai is wonderful…and as b5 has a couple of well recognized beauty sites, that might be the reason there is hesitation…but you never know…keep trying different angles.

I love your illustrations…I’ll have to remember who they are as the-petset.com moves to its next level of development.
