Obama & Oprah
Check out this video of Oprah speaking to 29,000 people about Barack Obama.
This Mother Jones piece, Obama and Oprah: The Ultimate Power Couple, by Debra Dickerson is also worth reading.
There’s a major difference between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party this election year.
When the Republicans look in the mirror they see exactly what we’ve always seen when looking at in a president - an old white guy with some money and a little power. A vision that has always made real power a possibility for all the white boys.
When the Democrats look in the mirror many of them see someone new: a white woman, a multi-racial black man, a Hispanic, is there a Jew? The Democratic Party looks a little more representative of America to me.
I’m liking what I see. The fact that it could include me or my daughter is a big step in the right direction. These are the kids who looked in the mirror and thought “could that ever be me?” Just the fact that they are there now opens so many doors for every kid in America - instead of only the white male ones.
It really makes me almost believe in “all {men} created equal,” rather than to hear it and know that it’s a limited truth.
