11 opinions for Mac Snob

I have a Mac, but I’m not a Mac Snob nor am I (what I consider worse) a Mac Fan Boy. I see the beauty in other platforms. However, yeah, the term snob and Mac go hand in hand :)

Apple is one of the corporations people like to “NOT” attack, but man, Steve Jobs is the biggest jerk. To add to it, I was reading in Fortune magazine last Saturday, among a laundry list of personality offenses, he makes it a habit to park in handicapped parking spaces.

It’s easy for us to beat up on Microsoft, but they’ve been the underdog in the geek world lately, so I’m going to throw them a bone here:

Microsoft has built a platform that understands folks will be using it on a variety of budgets and weird configurations. Apple on the other hand is in fact more monopolistic of their hardware, and their middle name is “proprietary”.

I love my Mac, don’t get me wrong, but Apple has achieved this Dali Lama status from some in the tech community.

Here is a comment I saw once that sums them both up (I’ll clean it up):
“Apple gets the reputation that they’re a friendly, nice corporation that does all the right in the world when in reality Steve Jobs is a horrible a*****e, doesn’t donate a cent to charities, and pretty much s**s over every one of his employees. On the other hand, Microsoft is a pretty crappy corporation, but they pay all their workers extremely well and its founder is one of the most charitable men in the entire world.”

With that said, so are you enjoying Leopard?

The biggest WOW of your post is that it came because you desired it to come. Amazing!

    hehehehehehehe!

But it is more intuitive and allows me to effortlessly express myself creatively.

I love Bill & Melissa Gates - but his machine leaves me slightly frustrated when using it.

I HEART my Mac (the Leopard too, I guess - not much of a nerd.)

Kudos to Bill and Melissa Gates for doing great philanthropic work, but there are some factors to think about when comparing the two companies.

A very large portion of the money that Microsoft reports donating is in the form of free software. Which is great, but even if the software costs thousands of dollars, it costs MS almost nothing to give it. They don’t even give you a disk – you download it from their site.

Of course, another argument is that their software donations have less to do with charity and more to do with Microsoft wanting to maintain market share among people who otherwise might not use their products. I’ve heard it compared to Ford Motors giving away free transmissions that will only work in their cars.

Even today, only like 8% of people use a Mac, which leaves most of the remaining 92% going to MS. Apple has struggled, almost going under altogether in the 90s. Thank God for the IPod, it saved the company. To stay profitable, Apple is lean and mean — they have to be.

Still, Apple has consistently contributed equipment and software to schools and teachers. They were also part of Bono’s Red campaign. And they are way ahead in environmental programs to reduce lead, PVC, BFR and arsenic from their products (which cause problems when they end up in landfills.)

Donating to schools is a great way to create Mac Snobs of the future too!

Now I know why SpoiledChild2 is so annoyed about her keying class. (keying in 5th grade!!!) Suddenly feeling OLD.
    She’s becoming a Mac Snob!!!
One day, during the “what happened in school today?”, SC2 told me about keying class and how she couldn’t get used to the keyboard. They are different than ours but she likes the ones at school better. I was paying attention, but wanted to show that SpoiledMom was way cool and asked her if she had learned about QWERTY. (6 first alpha keys of the keyboard), hence the “QWERTY” keyboard design name. blah blah blah. (Ok I wanted to one up the teacher)
SC2 told me they had Mac computers and therefore, the keyboards are smaller. She told me she liked the Macs but didn’t like having both types to work on, so we needed to get one. We have 2 laptops and 2 PCs. I think I’ll tell Mac Snob to go watch for one to grow on the apple tree in the back yard. Its right beside the money tree. LOL

see even children know - they are better machines, easier to work on.

    Hehehe - apple tree.

Maybe a dream board would be more effective.

I’m scared to death to think of the kinds of electronics my boys are going to want as teenagers - I can clearly remember being a teenager when pagers, then car phones, then cell phones were big - and we (middle class, normal folks) never had any of the above..my parents were like “why do you need that stuff!?” “Are you selling drugs?” “Running a corporation after school?!”

I definately did not need that stuff - but i wanted it and so will my kids. Think of all the stuff that’s out there now and that will be out there when they’re teenagers! Yikes!

Ashley: LOL I hear you, same here. I grew up upper-middle class, but out in the beautiful country. (not redneck-ville) but rural country.
We didn’t have CABLE until I was a Senior in high school. I had to rely on the 3 channels, ABC, CBS and NBC. (PBS was not on my viewing list) If I could con my younger brother into holding the rabbit ears, (SpoiledChild2 saying WHAT???) LOL….we could pick up what is now Fox and UPN. Our channels came out of Nashville. I was so cool because I had an Atari and a “princess” phone in MY ROOM. It had to be removed to a short period of time after my dad caught me in the closet @ 12am after telling me to hang up @ 8pm. I was 20 when I got my first cell phone. The Brick. It weight 15 pounds and broke your shoulder trying to talk on it. My kids laugh at them whenever they see them. They are all in a box in the basement. Then the huge flip phone with the extendable antennae. We have come so far. My daughter wants an iphone, ha! I don’t have an iphone. Again, go look on the Apple tree..
They both have Virgin Mobile WildCard phones. I don’t understand why they cant pick up the house phone and call for free??????

Tracee: they get very little access to my dream board. LOL they print out what they want and put in my inbox…LOL

I am a MS snob..I LOVE gateways..but I will say those IPODS rock..We got our daughter one for Christmas ..20,000 songs she can put on that tiny thing..dang..and I still have some of my ALBUMS from the old days. ahahha
Hopefully, Ashley, your boys won’t need or want all the stuff at one time. Of course when they get cars they will need cellphones of course..in case of flat tires, etc. Then they will need the ipod to listen to in the car..then of course they need the attachments so they can listen to their ipods without having earplugs in when they drive…it’s an endless cycle I tell ya!!

That’s what I mean Tarah - I don’t know how old you are, but I can remember actually leaving the house and driving somewhere without any sort of gadget..Gasp! Can you imagine that now? Living life w/out gadgets and electronic devices? Going somewhere without a phone!? I don’t think our kids are going to be able to imagine it..kind of scary.
