Jon and Kate plus 8
I I saw this woman who had sextuplets on Oprah last week. When they told her she was pregnant with an entire litter of babies she had the only rational and sane response I’ve ever heard of – she had a mini-nervous breakdown and had to be immediately hospitalized for shock. I imagine I might have the same response. I think having one baby at a time is a lot of stress and always prayed I would not have twins to double my stress. But, sextuplets. . . reminds me of that old ‘80s song by, who?, maybe REM, I think that God’s got a sick sense of humor and when I die, I expect to find him laughing.
May I recommend a new show on the Discovery Health Channel, Jon and Kate plus 8. This seemingly normal couple got married and seemed destined for an average life, then they had twins. Okay, still pretty normal existence now that the twins are weaned and out of diapers. Then Kate, and Jon will never let her forget it, wants one more baby – a sibling for their twin girls. Jon thinks, hey two is plenty, let’s just go about our normal life. Kate insists on one more. I bought one and got five free, she says on the show.
I love this type of television because it makes me feel so abundantly blessed to not be quite so abundantly blessed.
I mean, thank you God for not blessing me with twins and sextuplets!
If any family deserves their own television show it has to be this one. They have a dry sense of humor and really, that might be the only way they will survive. It’s a really good show about their day to day existence which is now anything but ordinary. Their grocery bill at Sams was over $1,000. Think about paying that bill next time your checking out. Could you even cover that and your mortgage?
It’s great family television to watch with your kids. I seriously giggle in sympathy every time I see this family. Then I quickly want to throw salt over my shoulder and knock on some wood to somehow prevent anything similar from happening to me.
God bless Jon and Kate Gosselin.

I too thank God for my ONE blessing. She’s a teen now but I think she’s about all I can ever handle. Don’t know how in the hayle parents experience “teenage fury” more than once. *smh* No thank you!

I happen to like my hair. But, to explain what’s with it, I’ll refer you to a blog entry titled: Because I can . . which explains how my pink hair came about in response to a boss I had who was sort of a “mean girl” about my former hair. http://www.blogfabulous.com/because-i-can/ You don’t need to like my hair because I like my hair.

Kate, I also think that your parenting is totally off. You need to seek professional help before Jon does leave you. You are rude, bossy and condescending to him. If I were in his place, I would take you to task for your attitude. Please get professional help. You need it!!!

It’s insane to think you could be a better parent to sextuplets than Kate or Jon.

Jim in Chesapeake,
Do you think you could do a better job than Kate raising 8 kids?? Maybe she needs to be a little bossy but who wouldn’t in her position? Plus she is home all day with the kids (well, at least 6 of them for now b/c the others are in school). Jon goes to work so he doesn’t have to do the minute to minute, day to day stuff. I have ONE three year old and sometimes I am at the end of my rope! I couldn’t do it with 6 running around!! I give her a lot of credit–she doesn’t really fly off the handle as much as I think I would! And that is why they seem like a good couple–she is high strung and he is mellow. They sort of balance each other out.

I can’t imagine what a daunting task it must be to raise all those little kids, all at once. What concerns me, however, is how Kate treats Jon in front of the kids, the filming crew and the viewing audience. I think Kate needs to step back a little and realize that she is teaching her children how to talk to their father and that if SHE doesn’t talk to him with respect, then the kids might not either.

Why is this family getting so much attention? If you have that many kids, I think you’re selfish. You can’t give them all the attention that they need and stay sane. When she found out she was having sextuplets, her doctor should have talked to her about her options. I’m really tired of this family, particularly when they say how hard life is for them. Boo hoo, I have 2 kids so I know what raising kids is. Anyway, I’m not buying it.

Dec 27, 2007 at 7:56 am
I have to agree with Jennifer–this family already had twins and then they went back for more? They knew the chances of having multiples again. Sometimes if you can’t have kids the natural way, maybe that is gods way of saying you shouldn’t have kids.
Mike
Dec 30, 2007 at 1:26 am
God’s way is that they had 6 more kids and they wouldn’t trade it for the world. 1 didn’t make it naturally. BTW, Maureen, what about medical care that people seek when “natural ways” don’t work?
In any event, my wife and I enjoy the show and the personalities reminds us of…us! We have 3 kids, and yes, I’m relieved no multiples.
Debbie
Dec 30, 2007 at 2:15 pm
wow you guys are harsh. ecspecially the ones who are saying they are selfish and what not. get a life! if you were to have multiples and they were healthy would you give any of them up? I think not. maybe you are jealous or something of the fact that they do take care of their kids and pretty damn good too. I can’t believe some of the things I read on here! If you have 8 young kids all at once 24 hours a day I’d like to see if you are a happy go lucky person all the time. I think they are doing an excellent job raising their kids.
Debbie
Dec 30, 2007 at 2:18 pm
also to respond to they already had twins then they went back for more- how many families have just 2 kids? there are families of all different sizes and since when the hell is wanting another child after having twins a crime? I just cannot get over some peoples comments on here! I’d like to see what everyone would really do if they were in that situation themselves!!!
maureen
Dec 31, 2007 at 10:49 am
Ok, calm down Debbie. The whole point is that people can have their opinions. If Jon and Kate put themselves out there on TV, then of course there is going to be backlash–both positive and negative. Would I choose to have 8 kids? No. Could I handle raising 8 kids? If I was put in that situation, I guess I would have to deal with it but I wouldn’t put myself into that situation. Would I want the whole thing taped and broadcast on TV? That would be a very enthusiastic NO!! Everyone is watching and thinking that they would do things differently if this was their life–and there is nothing wrong with that. I am sure the way you raise your kids is very different from how I raise mine. I am sure Jon and Kate have their own reasons for wanting their “story” out there and that is fine for them–but they are going to be people who disagree and agree with what they do. It is just the way life is.
Jennifer
Dec 31, 2007 at 2:37 pm
I think the reason they want to be on tv is clear - they’re getting paid for it. If I had 8 kids, I’d put myself on tv for the extra money and all the free stuff from the sponsors.
That’s why I feel it’s all a bit over the top.
maureen
Dec 31, 2007 at 2:45 pm
I have to agree w/ you Jennifer. I think that the lure of free stuff from others viewing their daily lives on TV was too tempting and they jumped at the chance. I mean, I probably would too if I had 8 kids and only my husband was working to bring home a paycheck. The only episode I didn’t like what when Kate had surgery for her stomach. I mean, yes, her stomach was gross and it is nice that she did something to make herself feel better but any surgery is risky. I would have probably been too nervous to undergo surgery knowing that I had 8 kids at home and what would happen to my family if something happened to me.

I think that some people on here should keep there opinions to themselfs, my mother had eight children fair enough they were not sextublets but we were all with in 17 months of each other and I and my sisters felt loved.. so why wouldn’t the Gosselins kids feel loved? and why would a parent who went to all that trouble to have kids give them up? Kate in my opinion does a fantastic job, the way as people put it she talks to her husband what the ??? they communicate and they get stuff done, when you are having to deal with Six three year olds and two eight year olds keep them safe/ clean etc etc you don’t have time to be nice about it, you just get it done quickly and safely. I used to run a day care centre I know!! Kate and Jon or anyone who knows them that read this please ignore the negative stuff you are doing a fantastic job with the kids, any body can see how much they are loved, cared for etc etc. kate I am like you I also talk to my husband in that manner when I need to just like you and we have been married 25 years now and are very happy, I also would of had a fit if one of my girls had got ice cream on her dress going round disney, and as for house cleaning my husband calls me a neat freak.. I love watching the program I think your kids are extra special I love the way they interact with each other and it’s all a tribute to you and your husband, Oh I also do not allow my girls to walk on hotel rooms floors with no shoes on, I know what you can catch from hotel bathroom floors thank you very much.. sue

Kate I watch your show every time it is on. I myself have twins a boy and a girl, a six year old boy and a 14 year old son. My daughter is the youngest by 2 minutes and she is special needs, there are days that I am so tired and just plain wore out I cannot stand it. I believe family is first and should always be first. I truly love your show you are my idol. I know all the kids names and they are just to cute. Your maddy is alot like my Brandon. These people that are being negative just need to mind thier own business and remember if you cannot say something nice don’t say anything at all…My twins were not planned and my daughter has been a fighter since day one and is still fighting every day. You take what god blesses you with and you deal with it. You and Jon are good parents and you handle life well with what you were delt. People just don’t understand what goes into a day with multiples. I just want to say you do a good job and don’t listen to the rude people. Thank you for reading this and please respond.

I was looking forward to the new season and it did not disappoint!! The trip to the zoo looked like fun–and I liked the fact that Jon was snapping at Kate. It always seems like she is the “bad” guy and Jon acts like a wet noodle. I have to say though, I think Maddy has problems!! She is just a brat. Cara seems so sweet and good natured but her twin isn’t. Plus Jon and Kate commented on it a few times in one episode. They called her “rough” with the little kids and I think Jon called her annoying!! Well, she should be old enough to know not to hit the little kids. They used her jumprope so she hits? Maybe they can send her away to boarding school! haha

I have five kids 10, 8, 5, 3, 2, And for who said it was selfish to have eight kids is wrong. I love having five. I do think, on the show the parents are both negative and nasty a good part of the time.Just enjoy the kids and change your thinking from this is sooooooooo hard and soooooooo challenging to this is awesome and fun to get to spend my day with all these beautiful children. Also, maybe if the parents would stopped fighting all the time, the kids would stop fighting also. For Jon and Kate , when the kids are all in school full time(which will be before you know it) you will not know what to do with yourself and at times might even be a little board.

Wow, a lot of ignorant responses here from people who don’t have a clue.
First off, if you followed their story a little mroe carefully, you’d know that Kate wanted to have another baby partly because she wanted to know what it was like to have just one and to devote your time mainly to him/her. Once she knew there were 6 little ones growing inside of her, she couldn’t give that up. And I don’t blame her.
Secondly, part of the reason she’s so “bossy”, as you so put it, is because she does have 8 kids. If she doesn’t take charge, who will?
Lastly, I think that Jon and Kate are doing a wonderful job with all 8 of their children. I can honestly say, that I couldn’t do it myself. So if you don’t like their show, or their reasons for doing it, instead of b!@#$ing online about it, STOP WATCHING IT!
Looks like perhaps some of you have TOO MUCH time on your hands, unlike the Gosselins!

I agree with BBB–both Jon and Kate should be a little more positive and not so negative. They aren’t the ONLY people who have a lot of kids. I can’t stand hearing Kate say “by so and so time, I am so exhausted, I am just waiting for Jon to come home and help, blah blah blah”. That is no way for Jon to want to come home! How would you feel knowing that the minute you leave work, you are going home to 8 kids who could be cranky and one wife who for SURE will be cranky!! It would certainly make me want to work overtime! I don’t think she has to be soooo bossy though. She is beyond bossy and borderline mean! She treats Jon badly most of the time. Even when they are sitting with the producer and “setting the scene” for what we are about to see–Jon looks bored and just defeated while she takes over the narrative. Then when Jon does pipe up with something, she either slaps his leg which is like saying “bad dog” or she’ll just totally cut him down saying that what he is trying to say is “wrong” or don’t talk so much, get to the point, and so on. I don’t know how he puts up with all of that. I am sure it is MUCH worse once the cameras are off.
It is nice that they do take the kids out to do and see stuff. The trip to the zoo looked awesome–they had their own tram AND tour guide. I guess having a litter of kids does have its perks!!

My husband and I love watching the show. We just had our first baby, and I stayed at home for 5 months. Even with just one, there’s been a couple of days that I just couldn’t wait for him to get home, and he works 12 hours a day. And guess what….he drove the whole way home looking forward to spending time with our daughter. Him and I interact with each other similar to the way Jon and Kate do, and guess what…it’s called communication. If you sugar coat everything all the time, the important messages just don’t get through. Not only that, but what we all see on TV is only a small portion of the day….ever hear of TV producers? They’re gonna air the stuff that makes people watch it…whether it’s to get negative press or positive press, fact is, we’re all watching. Would I do the show? Course not, I want everyone to think I’m perfect!!!! LOL…anyone stop to realize that these people are doing this ALL BY THEMSELVES? Think about it…how often do you see them tossing their kids off on someone else? Uh, almost never….
Emily
Jan 16, 2008 at 4:09 pm
I wish they take this show off the air. I watched it once and I was disgusted. It’s obvious they are doing this for the money and free stuff. Even though Kate is ‘bossy’ and obvious reasons why she needs to be, still, no reason to put that all on her husband. She can try not to act a witch towards her husband. Kate doesn’t need to tell her kids “Go ahead, eat, ignore daddy, he is mean,” come on, what’s that? Obvisouly, they are not agreeing on disciplining the kids. Yeah, we as parents are not all the same, but one cannot feel that it’s my way or the highway. He goes out and makes the money, so she needs to show some respect.
Also, Kate is doing this to herself making everything perfect, in return, will be stressful. She needs to learn to give a little and not be so anal about the way a cake should turn out at a certain time. Whatever! What’s the point of this show again?
Anway, I hope they get rid of this show ASAP.

Julie
Jan 17, 2008 at 7:59 am
Um Hello, of course they’re doing it for the money.. THEY HAVE 8 KIDS, Einstein! Good grief, I’m sure any parent with that many kids to fee, clothe, and generally support would jump at the same chance if it were offered.
Do you watch the show JUST so you’ll have something to complain about? Surely TLC isn’t the only channel you can find on Monday nights????
Emily
Jan 17, 2008 at 9:29 am
OMG! Did you read my entire message? No, I didn’t watch the show to find something to complain. I said I watched it once and that’s it, believe me, I will continue to use my “remote control” and avoid TLC on Monday nights. You gus missed my point… aside them using this to make money, what’s the point of having this show on the air? Please have an adult conversation here. Simply, some things, yes, I was amazed on how well organized she is but still, it kills me to see how she responds to her husband most of the time. I’ll excuse myself from here.
Paula
Jan 17, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I agree that Kate shouldn’t say to the kids “ignore daddy, he’s mean”. That just sends the wrong message. I don’t think the way they hash it out is right in front of the kids–maybe when they were younger it worked because they couldn’t understand everything but now they are almost 4 and they know what is going on. I tune in every week just to see how much of an animal Kate will be towards Jon!! And what is the deal with the twins and their birthday? Why did Kate HAVE to rush and make the cake and hide it, etc. Like the kids don’t know they get a cake? And did they all go to Gymboree on that same day? It looked like they did because Jon was home. Why didn’t Jon just go with the kids and then Kate would have had enough time at home to prepare for the birthday. Then when those twins got off the bus, they were just nasty! The one, maybe Cara, just dropped her bag right at the curb and there is Jon picking it up. Then the other one, Maddy, stomped into the house, kicked at balloons and was an all around beast. And Kate just says “she needs her downtime”. What? She needs a kick in the butt!! They are 7 years old and acting like 2 year olds. Then I thought to myself, why are they pushing it? Couldn’t they have gone out to dinner on the weekend–that way it would be earlier and then they could have opened their gifts and not have been so cranky! I like how Kate threw in “you get so many gifts from people you don’t know” which translates into “views who like the show are sending you stuff” but then Kate takes a bash at a viewer gift–the long sleeve shirts w/ their names on it. She said “I don’t know why someone would send long sleeve shirts when it is over 80 degrees here”. Hmmmm, I guess that is a hint for next year? Here’s a hint to the nice person who sent them the shirts. Keep your money and don’t do it again!!

I think Jon and Kate plus eight is an awesome show. I love watch this family in action. I am amazed at all of hateful comments. How can anyone refer to these children as a litter and why would anyone assume that God didn’t intend for Jon and Kate to have children. God will use foolish things to confound the wise. Another thing everyone is beating Kate down for snapping at Jon. The woman has eight children under 10 she needs to reserve her patience for the babies. Jon is a grown man and can handle his wife for himself. Also, since when is it a crime to earn money to support your family? Of course these people are on TLC to earn money and get sponsors. If TLC wanted to follow my family around and pay me for it I would be all over that. These people are great parents. I’m glad they work out their problems in front of their children. Disagreements are a part of life and children need to learn to resolve conflicts. Also, for those of you who are blaming the parents for children hitting fighting; get over it! Sibling fight no matter how many you have. If there is more than one child their will be fights. Kate does a excellent Job of handling her children’s misbehavior. However I do have a problem with seeing her changing 3 year olds diapers and allowing Maddy to throw tantrums. The bible says spare the rod and spoil the child. Some time it takes more than just talking and time out to deal with a discipline problem. Jon and Kate keep up the good work and my God richly bless you and your children.

I LOVE this show…the kids are sooo cute and KAte does a WONDERFUL job raising them. Of course some may disagree, but all parents raise their children differently, but other parents dont have 6 three year olds and 2 seven year olds running around either. I have 1 three year old boy and I know that sometimes I get furstrated and yell or whatever and then when I think about it later I feel bad, but Kate doesnt have time to think about things like that…she just has to go with it and move on (and so would you). All you people saying negative things need to just keep your mouth shut. And whoever it was that said oh well Jon goes and makes the money so she needs to be nice to him…yeah whatever that is no reason to be nice to somebody….I would much rather go to work and then come home to see my kids (for the stress anyways…not because I dont want to spend time with him..if you understand that). Jon almost has the easy part..Kate has to do it every day..Jon is almost like the helper (Jon and Kate if you read this I dont mean anything to be rude to you.. I love you guys, you are great. Jon please dont take this the wrong way.. I know it is hard work to go to work every day and then come home to work more I am just trying to get these people to understand they are so negative for no reason and they need to understand what it would be like….your family is BEAUTIFUL.. I love this family…God bless you all… Please respond monique_noah@sbcglobal.net)

I LOVE watching this show! I watch every Monday and every rerun that comes on! Those kid are the cutest, besides my own of course! I am a stay at home mom of three and my husband is NEVER home, he is a workaholic! There are days that I think I’m going to loose my mind and then I think of Kate and how she is at home with 6 or 8 kids and I realize that I have it quite easy! I can’t believe all the bad things that people are saying about Kate and how they feel so bad for Jon. We all have our different ways of dealing with stress and for that matter husbands! There are more days than not that I feel like, when my husband is home, that I have one more kid to take care of. Although, Jon seems to help out a lot and for that Kate is, again, very blessed! It isn’t that God has a sence of humor but rather that God just knew that they, more than others, could handle 8 kids! And I for one think they are doing a fabulous job! God never gives you more than you can’t handle! Congratulations Jon and Kate on a fabulous family and great tv show! Blessings!

I love the show and watch it every week. I am also a mother of multiples and a 6 year old and a 14 year old. How in the world is someone going to watch a hour long show and be so negative towards Jon and Kate. You people that are being negative do not know exactly what goes on in their house. They are good parents and yes childeren will throw tantrums and yes parents will fight. This is not the days of leave it to beaver people. Jon is a grown man and goes out of the house everyday and talks to adults and works, meanwhile Kate is home with 6 three year olds and is also packing lunches, doing dishes, doing laundry and cleaning up after the little ones. Yes Jon helps in the evening but they go to bed around 8 p.m. You people that are being so negative needs to either stop watching the show and leave the rest of us alone or stop being so negative. Kate yes probly does do it for the money and also has to work twice as hard during all the tapings than the average stay at home mom. How would you like to have camera men around your house everyday…..The show is great and they are good parents Noone is perfect so stop trying to act like it. Jon and Kate I love to watch the show and just ignore the people that are being mean and hatefull. I will continue to watch the show and the reruns my family and I like it and keep up the good work…

I have mixed feelings about this show. On the one hand, I admire Kate for being the super organized mom that she is. I think what I question the most is WHO is subsidizing this families lifestyle? They have a HUGE house, two cars, nannies, they shop at Banana Republic and they have elaborate bd parties for the kids! I mean, something does not add up here. Poor Jon can only make so much money in one year LOL
I wish I could have seen the show where Kate had her stomach surgery. does any one know what episode that was?

I enjoy this show very much. I can only imagine what all of you negative people would be like if you had to deal with 8 kids like Kate does. So give her a break and lay off already!! If you don’t agree with their parenting choices please do not watch their show! Jon and Kate are both grownups and how they deal with each other and their children works for them. If Jon has a problem with Kate he tells her about it- as we have all seen on their show. So don’t bash her about it- it’s not up to you to decide what they need to do, it’s up to them. Absolutely they are doing the show for the paycheck, but lets face it- this oportunity allows Kate to stay at home with the kids and gets the bills paid. We would do no less in the same situation. Anyone hear about the Dionne quints in the 1930’s? Their parents allowed them to be made into a circus act basically, just to profit themselves from it. At least Jon and Kate are raising their kids themselves, with a littler much needed help (to remain sane) and not exploiting them. This is one of my favorite shows, and I think they are fabulous!!!

I asked a friend of mine if she’d ever seen “Jon and Kate+8″ She told me that she had seen it for the very first time just that day. Her comment was that she didn’t think kate was a nice person, in one-word form, and commented on how she treated Jon(this was the episode where the twins were buying their christmas gifts for each other). I found myself standing up for this woman that I didn’t know and had never even seen in person. I told my friend that I thought that kate was a remarkable woman, and that I’m sure that either of us would act the same way if we were in that particular situation. Moral of the story is thatJonand Kate Gosselin are saints blessed with eight beautiful angels. they are doing a better job parenting with what they have then most people with one or two.

Jon and Kate do a fabulous job of raising kids. I find that Kate and I are very much alike. As far as Jon and Kate’s relationship, even though it seems rough, they obviously love each other. So what if she is bossy and mean some of the time. She has to raise 8 kids. For the person who said Kate would get bored when the kids went off to school. What!!! She will be glad for that time to run her errands without having 8 kids around. I have enough trouble keeping house with 2 active kids let alone 8. For all you negative people, be thankful that you are not in their situation. They have to do whatever they need to do in order to provide for their family. I am sure that if you were in their position, you would look for some handouts and you also might yell at your spouse!!!!! So back off and just be thankful that is not you.

Ha…the show is funny at times. I liked when Kate spent hours at the hair salon (new hightlights, cut etc) and Jon comes by the salon to change vehicles (to go pick up the trailer for the Florida trip) and she is begging him to come home. She doesn’t want him to go get the trailer, she needs him at home because she is sooooo tired. LOL I had to laugh! She just spent hours relaxing in the salon chair and she’s tired?

I have one question? Tell me about the antique secretary in the living room area? I have one just like it. It was my great, great grandmothers. I live in the southwestern part PA. I love the show! I am a mother of two sons. I find myself tired, run down, and need sleep!

I love this show! Kate has to be my favorite on the show by far. Probably because I understand her, we are very similar. She responds to her husband that way out of pure frustration. I know I respond that way too sometimes. She said it perfectly, “there may be plenty of perfect parents out there, but we aren’t any of them.” EXACTLY!! Jon does not deserve any special treatment just because he goes out and works, that is so old-fashioned! Everyone has the right to get frustrated with one another once in a while! But what I think is the most important thing to remember is that they have plenty of LOVE in their family. They try their best, but the stresses of life get in the way sometimes!

I think people who watch have a right to their opinons..If they don’t like it they can TURN OFF THE CAMERAS as easily as we can the TV sets. I too think Kate expects free things and she feels she is entitled to them. We can think what we want beings they put their lives on national TV.

I think it’s hilarious how ppl wonder where the money comes from. Not everyone in America is retardedly broke. If you watch the show regularly, John’s father was a dentist and has past away. I am willing to bet he was left an inheritance. They both also went to college. Could it be possible they actually saved for their futures?? Sure the show is paying them and I have a feeling Jon does make really good money. Also note they do not live in LA. The cost of living in PA is a fraction of the rest of the country. I don’t think they get as many freebies as you think. Kate does public speaking engagements, about 2 per month so they have 2 incomes. Think outside the box

I discovered this show about 3 weeks ago, and now it has become my favorite show! My husband and I loooove Alexis! When she smiles, we just go Awwwwwww~ God allowed Jon and Kate to have 8 children, because they can handle them; I am not sure how many children I can handle, but every time I watch the show, I feel like more is better. Don’t you agree?

Love Jon and Kate. They say in every marriage there has to be one strong one and one weaker one or it won’t work. Jon and Kate love each other to death and so what if she’s overbearing at times. I’m the same way and we don’t even have kids, just 4 dogs and that is crazy enough. Jon has a good paying job bet and don’t forget Kate was a nurse before the sextuplets and could make good coin again IF she had to. I just want to reach through the screen and hug all those beautiful kids. Way to go Jon and Kate
From a huge fan up in Canada!!

First, Regarding Cary’s comments on 2/18 (I hope this was not written by an adult.): We can think what we want beings”… huh?
I agree with much of what Sarah has said on 2/18 with a few modifications. I have gone into some of the Gosselins sites. They have indicated they have put aside not one cent for college for the kids; therefore I doubt they have money put away for savings for themselves. I think the only money they have is what Jon earns and what they get for speaking engagements, plus whatever they receive from TLC. They are constantly going on speaking engagements–at least two a month–and are actively soliciting new ones, so it would appear they are trying all the time to earn money. I do not believe they have a never-ending source of money. In addition, Jon does have a stepmother, so we really don’t know if he received all, or even part, of his father’s inheritance. What it really comes down to is this: We just don’t know the source of their income absolutely, except for the three sources I have just named.
I think they do a fantastic job of raising eight children. I could barely raise one. No one should be criticizing this amazing mother for what she accomplishes in the course of a day.
Incidentally, Robin’s comments on 2/12 which basically malign Kate for spending several hours at the hairdresser’s and still having the nerve to tell Jon she’s tired are ludicrous. Robin seems to be implying that unless Kate is working at home nonstop she better never be telling Jon that she is tired. Incredible. . .

Dear Jon and Kate and all your adorable 8 kids,
I am 71 years young and have three children, of course all grown up, some getting older than me!
My husband and I have been married almost 52 years, in June, and we have 8 grandchildren. I just love your show, I am becoming addicted to your children. I love all of them, I feel like I’ve come to know them. I wish I lived near you, I would definitely come and help out and give you and Jon a break once in a while. Keep up the wonderful life that you both have with those wonderful children. I am sure you have been blessed by God with those kids. Please stay well and kiss all those babies for me. I love the show. Love that it’s real. Can’t imagine raising that many kids and Kate is so organized. I agree, Jon and Kate balance each other out. I have one 3 year old with another child on the way and I get so exhausted. Good for her that she goes to hair salons and on vacations! I do that and, honestly, it makes me a better parent.

I have nine children,27,25,22,7,7,7,5,5,and 2.!! I love the show, makes me feel I am not the only one juggling. I am now running around with all my kids doing after school activities. My friends and neighbors all ask how I get things done, all I can say is thank god for lists, lists and more lists. Plus I find it the easiest thing, I do all my own cleaning, gardening and painting and decorating. Even when they were all babies. I would love to hear from anyone with a large family how they manage.

I hope that you find the time to read this Kate, I have already mentioned earlier that I have nine children, three are my biological children and the other six are my adopted foster children that I have had since babies. Two seven year olds are twins and another seven year old are all born on the same day. I then have two five year olds that are six weeks apart, then the baby who is just two. All but the baby, have developmental delays, and receive special education. I have two still in diapers. I am very rigid on schedules for bathing and bed. I would like to know how you deal with keeping your youngsters in bed, I tend to have to yell and threaten time outs and Dad coming up to make them stay in their room without a meltdown.

Dakota, thank you for the information, I have only just found this site yesterday! I found the show by accident, it really makes me feel normal to see a large group of kids all running around making a lot of noise at once. I came here 15 years ago from England with my biological children, two is the norm over there. Everyone thinks I am totally nuts to start again, adopting 6 more. Oh well, move over Angelina!! It is nice to read everyones comments on this blog.

I think it’s ridiculous that anyone would actually have a problem with the Gosselins. I mean honestly, now.. Kate is OBVIOUSLY very controlling. Thank God for that, otherwise how would she be able to take care of all those kids? What matters is that Jon doesn’t seem to have a problem with her personality, and he has to live with her. If anyone else has a problem with her, Jon, or the kids, CHANGE THE CHANNEL!
And if Jon or Kate do read this- You are both amazing parents!

I own and opperate a day care out of my home, right now I have an 11 month old, a 14 month old, 3- 3 year olds, 3- 4 year olds and a 5 year old. I also have a 15 year old daughter. I love what I do, but am glad I can get a break, to have “down-time” and regroup before the kids are back. I watch your show a lot and think if we lived closer I would be one of the those people who would want to trade ideas for crafts, teaching alphabet, early reading readiness, and other learning opportunities. I have 4 going to school this fall and will miss them like one of my own kids, they are ready to go though, I have taught them phonics and reading readiness and they are writting letters from the sounds they hear. Would love to get your physical address so I could mail you some of the tools I have developed over the last 10 years of day care to help you. At three your sextuplets are ready and probably eager to learn to read and write their names, if they aren’t already. I get a lot of ideas from you watching your show and I know what keeping a schedule is like with 9 kids underfoot. Erik (my husband) stays home all day to help with the day care, he does the cooking, I do the teaching, but we argue and talk to each other just like you and Jon do. Sometimes when I am watching your show, and I see you fussing at Jon I can remember a similar situation with Erik and I with the day care out somewhere and I am saying almost word for word what you said. Cracks me up! So don’t let them take you guys off the air, after all where would I come up with the ideas for playtime if not from you! Love the idea of the tables OUTSIDE for playdough. Erik decided to do it in the kitchen on a table with the day care once. We had 10 kids then, all under three. They got playdough in their shoes under the table and tracked it all over the carpet in the rest of the downstairs before I started yelling at Erik to Take Their Shoes Off before letting them out of the kitchen! Glad there wasn’t a camera crew following us around that day!!
Also, out and about….
We teach the kids to walk one behind the other single file like they do in schools from one class to the next when we are out walking around town and use white baseball caps and sunglasses to tell our group from the rest at parks and other places we end up with so many. All their hats are color coded and have straps on their sunglasses to match so we can tell who is who from the back. One of us walks in the front as “line leader” holding the first ones hand and the other walkes at the end of the line holding the last one’s hand. If we have kids under two we use strollers at the front and back with the first one holding on to the stroller and the last one holding on to the stroller in the back. Erik insists on holding the “line leader” position so I get to be the “caboose”.
I also do more of the discipline than he does because he will spend long hours in the kitchen so when he sees someone doing something they aren’t supposed to do he jokes with them to give him an immaginary dollar or he will tell on them. He calls me Helen the Hatchet and makes the noise from the scary movies, Hahhhh- Hahhhh and everything. I keep saying if I didn’t love him so much I’d shoot him and ask his parents to make another one just like him only nicer next time.
I didn’t mean to write a book to you both, but did want to contact you. Hope this works. Get back to me if you find the time. I only get to my e-mail every week once and sometimes I skip a week, so don’t rush.

Instead of making fun of Robin and my comments…oh yeah..being is a word..look it up, just worry about your own..We can think what we want just as YOU can..These are people on a show..you don’t really KNOW them. They may be fantastic people but maybe not..everyone has a right to their opinion…we are just stating ours as you are stating yours. If you don’t like what we say fine….deal with it.

CARY:
You are absolutely right, being is a word. Beings, is also a word, just not in the context that you used it. Beings: more than one being. I’m sure you meant “being as”, in which case, maybe you shouldn’t be telling Jacquie to check the dictionary and you should take your own advice. Or even consult your local grammar teacher.

We love you, guys!!! We only have one child and I feel the same, waiting for my husband to come home from work, counting the minutes of the last hour, until he gets home.

I just came across this blog and skimmed through… I don’t really think that Kate reads it, especially since they said on one of their episodes that they delete negative e-mails without even reading them. They don’t want to be exposed to possible negativity… so I doubt they read blogs about themselves.

I think your show is the best on T.V. I’ve watched the other shows of homes with multiples and can’t believe how much better Kate & Jon handle all the responsibilities. Not just loving all the kids, but providing an organized, truely loving envirnment. All the kid’s behavior is expected to be a little loud, it’s hard to be heard in a crowd that big. My only suggestion for Mady would be a snack every two hours and see if that helps. Low blood sugar can cause that behavior. Marge Smith

Hails and Katie-as far as emailing them, I looked them up on google and they have their own website. I sent an email via the address listed there…dunno if it went to them directly, but from what I read I think it does. There is also a schedule for the next year or more showing where she and Jon speak at churches. Unfortunately, most are sold out (duh). The closest location to me (two states away, but it would be well worth the trip) is on a weekend in April when I have plans with my children, but I will keep monitoring it. You can also arrange for them to speak in your area via this site. Google it :) They have some awesome music on there, too! Enjoy.

First of all, most of these comment against John and Kate are insane. They are trying there best, and doing a good job. Having 8 kids is stress full, and I don’t blame john and Kate for being rude towards each other. And also when people say John is going to walk out on Kate is horrible. If you actually watch the show as much as I do, you will see that John and Kate are very much in love, and John would never leave Kate. So there!

Does anyone else feel sorry for poor littleMaddie for the way Kate and sometimes Jon humiliate and belittle her.Why is Kate such a great mother? I couldn’t believe the metal gate that surrounded the tree or her constant badgering of Maddie because of the way she opened her gifts. She doesn’t care that all her class mates see the show and probably have mean names that they call her.I will never forget when those poor kids were eating ice cream and she almost had a breakdown because it dripped on thier clothes, then she cruelly took it away from them. These are just a few examples of her ridiculous behavior.Of course anything said about her that she would read would be thought of as negative. She thinks she is perfect.Poor Jon,reminds me of Brad Pitt, staying with thier wives because theylove thier children and are afraid of thier wives.

I look forward to Jon&Kate plus 8 every monday night. Kate, I found a web site called simplysilhouttes.com.
It would be cute for you to have your children’s silhouttes framed and displayed in your home. When we were at Disney World 17 years ago I wish I had known about this place on main street where I could have had our children’s silhoutte done. Now they’re in their twenties, another regret. I have a framed saying on my wall that reads “Raising Children, they days are long…the years are short. So true.

Nichelle,Why does anyone care when a child(Maddy) is so baddly treated. It hurts to see Kate treat her so badly. Why is that so hard for you to see?
Nichelle
Mar 14, 2008 at 8:23 pm
“so badly treated”?????
Perhaps you should go into homes, or read up on different child abuse cases, before you make such a judgment.
All of the Gosselin kids are raised with love. NO parent is perfect or says the right thing all of the time. I DO NOT see what you see, but maybe Kate and Maddy butt heads a little because they are most alike.

Mar 14, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Nichelle, have you ever heard that emotional abuse can be way more hurtful than physical abuse?Well it’s true. You can’t compare a7yr old child to an adult .The adult of course has way more power. Why do people list her assets as being organized and clean.A good mother is being nuturing, loving and kind.
Nichelle
Mar 14, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I’m in no way sticking up for any of the hurtful things she does say. I just don’t think that it sums up what kind of parent she is, and tries to be for that matter.
I totally understand what you are saying. It’s great that you are concerned. As a person that went through emotional and physical abuse as a child I notice things like that, and I haven’t noticed it in their family.
I do have to say that there was one time that I felt she was mean to Cara…and it bothered me for days. But I realized that they are just really close, and sometimes that’s just the way it is. :)
What’s important is that they get 80% love and 20% negative attention. There is a good balance of both in their family!!
Again, I know what you are saying. I just don’t see exactly what you see.

nichelle, thanks for being so nice in your response.I have to make this quick.I’m sorry for what you went through,my mother was on the mean side but we had a teriffic dad who was always there for us.
I saw so many instances the cruel way Kate treated Maddy on the ski trip.It began with the constant praise of Cara with her skiing.Even Jon said I will have a life long friend in Cara because of her skill.Kate had goad Maddy for not skiing several in an unkind manner.
The praise of cara for the way she treats the younger children and then mentioned that mady was rough sev eral times. She also mentioned that the little ones didn’t like Mady.Kate wanted to see what Maddy could do on ice skates,Mady said she wasn’t ready but Kate goaded her until Mady went out on the ice and immediately took a terrific fall.Kate was unsympathetic when Mady could have used a hug and a word of encouragement. One time Mady had written a sweet letter that went back to a time before the birth of the 6 others.Kate questioned her about why she didn’t include the little ones instead of thanking her for the letter.
Nichelle ther are so many other examples I hope you see just a little of what she is doing to that child. She constantly complains about her behavior. The camera follows Maddy around and I see how often she runs from them and closes the door .
Maddy doesn’t like school and I believe she is made fun of because students watch the show, parents discuss the show and they think she is a bad kid because of the way Kate treats her.Now Cara is getting to the age where she thinks she is hot stuff.I have said a lot of this stuff earlier,I apologize for boring so many people and thank the others that may agree.Kate has plenty of help and makes a great deal of money from tlc at the expense of her kids Do you know they are moving again? Please don’t think Kate is such a perfect saintly person.
Now I will leave for a fun day St. Pats parade and parties with great Irish songs.

I look so forward to watching this show every monday night. People should not judge her, rather think what it would be like to be in her shoes. I think they do a great job with their children. Every child is a blessing and I think they are very thankful everyday for them. Keep up the good work Jon and Kate. I hope your show goes on for many more episodes. May God continue to keep blessing your family!

Gail,
I just watched the skiing episodes yesterday & I didn’t see where Kate goaded Mady about not skiing. I saw Mady, once again, saying how she didn’t want to do something & pretty much throwing a tantrum about it. Jon said that skiing would probably be his & Cara’s thing, not a lifelong friend. And why shouldn’t they praise her for something she’s good at? As for the letter she wrote I don’t recall that. I recall her drawing a picture but when she was questioned about the little kids she said they didn’t fit. And why should Kate have said thank you? Thank you for writing a letter or drawing a picture that doesn’t include our entire family. Kate has made it very clear, as well as Jon, that they are a family like it or not. It’s hard on the twins, yes. But basically you can’t exclude them from it. And Kate isn’t going to praise that kind of behavior out of any of her kids. As for the ice skating fall she did help her back up & ask her if she was okay. I think she probably didn’t react the way you thought she should have because she found it funny (but couldn’t laugh). Plus I don’t think Mady was in the mood for a hug. She seemed more angry. I do wish however that Kate would be more affectionate towards the kids. But I think that has more to do with the editing because there are times where they show clips of her holding, hugging, & kissing them along with one on one time as well. But the producers don’t usually show that. And most of the kids seem to want her or call for her so they must think she’s okay. Although when the one son was sick I would have loved to see her feed the other kids & while doing that go & check on Joel, pick him up, comfort him.

Today show was so boring about Valentines day.Good lord,I don’t think I can stand Kate reminding us over and over again about all the fantastic things she did for her family and how well it went over with everyone. Then she brings all those kids to look at a house with thier dirty shoes.I’m sure the homeowners weren’t too happy.I have too leave she just insulted Jon way too many times for my taste.
Once again she had to complain about Mady. That child is in for a sad sad life with that woman in charge of it.

Nichelle,The only person I’m negative about is Kate and that I believe she is guilty of emo0tional abuse . You don’t see it so forget what I have to say.Don’t read it, you will feel better.I’m not sending emails to make anyone feel bad.Seriously,I was wishing Kate would read this and perhaps open her eyes as to what she is doing to Mady. But you know what I’m bored with the show and she is a greedy control freak.

Gail: I’m really not affected by what people say. I just don’t understand it…I really don’t, and I am trying really hard. I like to see things both ways!! I want to hear WHY you feel that way, what makes you cringe deep down inside, and for (people like) you to explain it without saying, ” Kate does this Kate does that” :)
I don’t think Kate is responsible for all the negative feelings you feel towards her. Perhaps it’s much deeper than that. You choose to feel the way you do.
I may sound like a freak…but I’m just concerned…yes, even for strangers.

Tosha, why do you say Mady had a tantrum? What took place? Was she hurt one too many times? What were the circumstances? Then you called Mady mad when she took an extremely hard fall on the ice.Why would a mother surpress laughing when that happens to thier child?I seriously don’t get it.It sounds as though you have also labeled Mady.

Gail - “Don’t read it, you’ll feel better”, maybe you could apply that advice to the show..

Nichelle,If you really mean that you just don’t get it as far as Mady is concerned and by the way it’s obviously going to be much worse when the is off, just go back and read my examples of what she has done.
John is so hen pecked. If it weren’t for the children he would be out of there pronto.
Hey if you don’t get it don’t let it bother you as it has. These little chats are just people giving thier opinions.

I think Kate is a very abusive spouse and parent. I also cannot believe that TLC would promote such an awful person. Kate claims to be a very good housekeeper and have OCD. Her house is not very clean, and her bed is never made. I don’t see any love in that home. And, Maddy is treated the worst of all.

I also believe that all that Kate is interested in is MONEY. Now she is trying to “keep up with the Carsons”. When the show first started, they didn’t know where their next meal was coming from, now they are traveling alot and looking for “property”. Something is wrong with that. Any money made from the show, should be put in trust for all EIGHT of the children. I think sometimes Kate forgets that she has 8 children instead of the six.

I’ve just discovered this blog and read it with interest. It seems that the negative comments come from people who wish they had some of the benefits that have come from having so many babies at once. (Including myself, at times.) One of the things I’ve learned from being a teacher, and from doing home day care, is that not all parents raise their children the way we think they should, and we can do nothing about it. Those differences are what makes us adults different. I watch the show with a mixture of fascination and awe at how much the family does. Having raised 5 children of my own (albeit not having any multiples) without the benefit of all the extra (financial) help, I think I know what it is like to have a busy household. I was a stay at home mom, and supplemented our income with part-time work, and doing family daycare, where at times I did have 8 plus children in the house at the same time, juggle taking older children to practices, change diapers, cook, clean, shop and play with kids, as well as wonder where the money would come from to pay for the car repair, or birthday presents. I have had to do our laundry, fold it and iron it and put it away without the help of friends and neighbors (only hubby). My family has never been to Disneyworld or New York, or worn such nice clothes as toddlers. We even recycled old bikes with fresh paint and new seats to be from “Santa.” We have a too small house that has been remodeled many times in 15 years to suit all the needs of our growing family. I returned to teaching when my youngest child began school, and have since completed graduate school at night while working full time. Now I manage my “children” in my classroom without help either. We managed to raise happy, successfull children to adulthood- 1 college graduate, and 2 currently in college so far. I guess what I’m saying is, I don’t think that what Jon and Kate are doing is any different from what any mother of a large family does. I think she needs to stop trying so hard to give her children everything, as “things” won’t always come to each of them so easily when they are grown. She is doing the best that she can with the benifit of a large number of helpers. Other families do the best they can without the benefit of so much help. While I think it is interesting to consider that her family is unique because of the number of multiples, at this point I think they are just a large family.
