Hillary’s Justification - Me

by Tracee Sioux on May 14th, 2008

I keep hearing pundits and newscasters searching for “justification for Hillary Clinton to stay in this race.”

They consider her win “impossible” at this point. They appear to be in search of politically precedented logic.

My need to see Hillary Clinton NOT QUIT is the only justification Hillary Clinton needs to stay in this race.

I NEED to see her NOT QUIT.

If Hillary were running on precedented logic she would never have gotten in the race in the first place.

She began the race - her whole political career - running against the word “impossible.”

When I see her declare in front of the whole world, the same world who keeps talking about how it’s impossible for her to win, I’m not going to quit, I am filled with such gratitude that she is willing to do this for ME.

She’s doing this to give me and my daughter an example of a strong woman facing “impossible” odds who doesn’t quit just because the boys are winning.

Thank you Hillary!

I can do anything through Christ our Lord, I think Hillary takes this Biblical reference to mean literally A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

And so do I.

Ellen R. Malcolm, president of Emily’s List says the same thing in the Washington Post:

“Hillary Clinton certainly has the right to compete till the end. But I believe Hillary also has a responsibility to play the game to its conclusion. For the women of my generation who learned to find and channel their competitiveness, for the working women who never falter in the face of pressure, for the younger women who still believe women can do anything, Hillary is a champion. She’s shown us over and over that winners never quit and that quitters never win. We’ll cheer her on until the game is over. And we hope that when the final whistle blows, we will have elected the first female president and the best president our country has ever had.”

No one EVER called for Gary Hart, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, Ronald Reagan or Jerry Brown to drop out.

They all played out the entire primary and most took their fight to the convention - many with FAR LESS delegates. Bill Clinton was not named the candidate until June.

[Hillary] Clinton is being held to a different standard than virtually any other candidate in history,” wrote Steven Stark in the Boston Phoenix. “When Clinton is simply doing what everyone else has always done, she’s constantly attacked as an obsessed and crazed egomaniac, bent on self-aggrandizement at the expense of her party.”

Could it be because she’s a WOMAN?

Kudos to her for not letting the male dominated media or Obama’s blood-thirsty supporters tell her when to step down. Not even the democratic party. Suck it Dean and Pelosi (both Obama supporters.)

And riddle me this: If the superdelegates are just supposed to vote for whomever the leader is, why do they exist?

Violet - I too have been baffled why everyone is all “there’s no time, no time, no time for the general election with this long primary.”

It’s not as if Hillary invented the election timeline. And it’s not new. These are the long-existing boys’ rules.

The Democratic Party shouldn’t let states drag their primaries out until the end of time if they want more time to fight a general election.

But don’t expect a candidate - in a neck and neck race (She’s behind by less than 200 delegates with several states to go) - to QUIT.

They should change the rules for NEXT election - not this one.

It’s like they’re saying “Okay, move aside now lil lady. You’ve had your fun, now it’s time for the boys to get down to business”..I’ll bet that makes her furious.

I totally agree, Ashley. They just want us to do what they always want us to do: sit down, shut up and let the boys take over.

Once again, the young, inexperienced, handsome man takes the job away from the more qualified, older woman candidate. It happens every day in corporate America, but I expected better of the Democratic party.

The democrats made the rules, and yet now they want to change them to suit the situation. I don’t know if I can ever forgive the party for the shabby way they’ve treated her.

The media is no better. They skew every story to his favor. When she won WV by nearly two to one margin, they called it racism. When he won NC which has a very high black population, they call it amazing. WTF?

It’s upsetting how she has been piled on from day one, but inspiring that she keeps standing back up.

I’d encourage everyone to donate to her today at http://www.hillaryclinton.com. Even as little as $5. The only reason she might not go the distance now is because she is in deep financial straits. That would be a travesty.

I totally agree Ashley! They are saying what they always say: Sit down, shut up and let the boys take over.

Once again, the young, handsome, inexperienced man takes the job away from the more qualified, older woman. It happens every day in the boardroom, but I expected more from the Democratic party.

I don’t think I can every forgive the vicious way she has been treated by Obama and his supporters and party leaders. It’s outrageous.

I don’t even know if I want to be a democrat any more.

Yeah, do you ask the losing team to quit in the middle of a basketball game?

I don’t think I can ever forgive the party for hte way they’ve treated her. Once again, the handsome, young, inexperienced man takes the job away from the more qualified, older woman. It happens every day in corporate America, I just expected more from the democrats.

That’s exactly what they ARE saying Ashley.

I saw one of her campaign heads on CNN and they asked, What does Hillary really want now that’s she’s lost but won’t quit? Does she want VP, does she want a head start on 2012? Does she want a nice send off?

The campaign lady was pissed. Her head nearly exploded.

Hillary Clinton REALLY wants to be The President of the United STATES! she retorted.

Then Barrack Obama’s campaign guy was like, Okay she had a good victory, but Obama has moved on to beating John McCain, let Hillary keep campaigning.

Campaign leader got pissed again: That’s really condescending “okay we’ll let the nice lady keep running.”

We’re running and we’re going to beat you!

Tortoise and the Hare people. Tortoise and the Hare.

Violet - perhaps your expectations were too high.

We’ve had 43 white male presidents - About half of them were Democrats. It’s great that Democrats were the first to FINALLY put up the first woman VP and the first woman P candidate, but all other Democrat candidates since the beginning of time have been MEN.

The other party didn’t even offer up one single woman or person of color.

They are “more progressive” than Republicans but not exactly progressive.

We - as a nation - obviously still have a long way to go.

I feel your frustration. But, maybe we shouldn’t be this surprised or hurt. This is how women are perceived and treated - which is better than how women have been perceived and treated by the last million years.

We already know that - Hillary and Barack just made us face it. It sucks now as much as ever. But, at least we’re going in a forward direction.

Excellent article. And right on with the tortoise and the hare. I am rooting for (and voting for) Hillary all the way and so glad she won’t quit.
