Generic Magic

by Tracee Sioux on December 28th, 2007

magic-erasure.jpgHave you seen the generic, knock-off Magic Erasures on the shelves right next to the Mr. Clean ones?

We’ve been moving so I’ve used about 16 Magic Erasures to clean 4 years of grime off the old house and other people’s grime off the new one.

The Mr. Clean Magic Erasure is a housewife’s wet dream. Really. They cost around $2.80 for two. A little too much for me to throw away the nasty ones until they’ve crumbled into a fine dust (they disintegrate as you use them.)

The generic knock offs - and I’ve seen several brands in several different stores - cost about $1.05. So you save about 50 cents per erasure.

 But do they work?

Well, I just wiped crayon off a kitchen chair, black Sharpie off plastic drawers and coffee stains off the computer.

Cheaper Magic gets a Blog Fabulous happy boogie dance!

I’m sure there is some horrible chemical in those things that make them work so well, but I LOVE them and have a “don’t ask don’t tell” relationship with those sponges. I want to believe that they really are magic. A little witchcraft never hurt anyone right?

That’s my moto. If they cause cancer and they take them off the market I’m buying them from a back alley cleaning supply lady. I hope they avoid doing research on them.

i just discovered them myself. They are great! i only use non-toxic cleaners other than the sponges, and really don’t want to know how toxic they are either. How do they work so well?
Thanks for rating the generic…i didn’t think there was a chance the off brand one could work as well, but it goes against my nature to pay full price, so now i don’t have to! Thanks!

I love those things! And how exciting to think that there could be one that is a little bit cheaper, and that works as well. I would probably not even have noticed if I hadn’t come across this blog!
