Kate Gosselin & Dirty Kids

Dear Kate Gosselin,

I’m a huge fan (I watch for you, not for the kids) and I think you really should be Time’s Person of the Year, as I suggested and you should win an Emmy because you’re have about the only show on TV I can still watch with my kids.

After the most recent cupcake […]

Resolutions Revisited

I was checking my statistics for Blog Fabulous when I noticed my story Anal Retentive Compulsions in 2008 was still being read. How’s that for accountability?

That was my story where I declared my New Year’s Resolution to get be so organized I could be classified as anal retentive compulsive, you know like Kate Gosselin and […]

15 Years - Suck It Up

I find very few flaws in the logic of Leslie Bennetts in her book FEMININE MISTAKE, THE: ARE WE GIVING UP TOO MUCH?
Her logic is such that I find myself saying, She’s right. Why did I make such a self-defeating choice to quit my fulltime professional newspaper job?

Until the chapter where she reminds me why, […]

Bulk Lasagna

Lasagna is one of those things where if you make one you may as well make four. One makes just as big a mess.

One for the corporate dinner party. One for the family reunion, one to give away or take to a potluck, one for the freezer for later. If I’d had more pans I’d’ve […]

Stress for SAHMs v. Working Moms

Mothers periodically reevaluate whether they should go back to work or quit their jobs - depending on their current situation.
I found these fascinating statistics in FEMININE MISTAKE, THE: ARE WE GIVING UP TOO MUCH?.
One Harvard and Cornell study found that
Women who were homemakers at the beginning of their three-year study and and then went to […]

Happy Father’s Day Dad

I just want to shout out a big Happy Father’s Day to my Dad. He’s a good dad and a great Grandpa and a heck of a gardener.

I’d write more, but he won’t read it. He’s a retired Utah Air National Guard Colonel who won’t learn how to surf the net. He can fly an […]

The Shape of a Mother: Passive Resistance

In the same vein as the Normal Breasts Gallery, which I wrote about earlier this week on both Blog Fabulous and Empowering Girls: So Sioux Me, we have The Shape of a Mother.

Both galleries are beautiful and artful acts of passive resistance to the media message “You’re not good enough.”

Real mothers have boldly […]

Boys and Dolls

The View Hot Topic: “Would you let your boy play with dolls?”

“No way,” Sherry Shepherd said Wednesday. “I’d take a doll away! I don’t want my boy playing with dolls, I want him growing up like a man.”

Elizabeth chimes in that she would “take the baby doll away and replace it with a GI Joe.”

It’s […]

Surprise Visit from Grandma

My mom called me last Thursday and said, I’ll be there tomorrow, we’re flying in to surprise Mother [hers] for her 85th birthday.

We had a great weekend hanging out with our large extended family. I love a bonus visit with Grandma!

Resurrecting 1970s Neighborhoods

Yesterday I told you how Zack Ran Away to visit his friend down the street.

What bothered me was the threat to call the police.

Is that what neighbors do now?

We resent looking out for each other’s kids to such a degree that we’d rather call the police than talk to a mother, maybe help her devise […]

Zack Ran Away

“Tracee, Zack is over at my house. A man brought him to the door and said he almost ran him over with his truck. He says if it happens again he’s going to call the police!”

“AACK! Zack What? How? Outside? I’m on my way!”

Evidently, my two-year-old son knows how to work the latch - […]

Women’s 10 Steps to Charge Air Conditioner

Sometimes it’s easier to fix something myself than to get it to the top of my husband’s list.

Step 1 - Go to ABC Auto Parts. They expect me to know nothing cause I’m a girl. They very patiently explain, and yes, sometimes they even offer to do it for me. Take notes. Allen, the auto […]

Cooking Gadgets

Ever walk in a Kitchen Store and wonder what, exactly, some of those gadgets do? I know I will pick up a colorful silicone item in the shape of a tomato and wonder What the bleep does this do?

Generally I’m either being a tourist in a cute boutiquey kind of town or I’m shopping for […]

Career & Kids - How We CAN

I want to introduce you to Elizabeth over at CareerandKids.

I’m feel both impressed and I inadequate by her resume. She’s a fulltime nurse, married 17 years with 3 children and writes GenBetween and BusyMom.

Frankly, I’m exhausted just thinking about having that much on my plate.

One of her latest posts is about how most mothers […]

Hillary’s Justification - Me

I keep hearing pundits and newscasters searching for “justification for Hillary Clinton to stay in this race.”

They consider her win “impossible” at this point. They appear to be in search of politically precedented logic.

My need to see Hillary Clinton NOT QUIT is the only justification Hillary Clinton needs to stay in this race.

I NEED to […]
