American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women Movement”
Once again, Red is the color of humanity and concern.
This time it is Campbell’s Yes! Campbell’s soup…teaming up with The American Heart Association.
The campaign, Go Red With Campbell’s has incorporated the regulation tactics of many charities, such as the star component, Lorraine Bracco — The Soprano’s, Dr. Melfi.

A very serious-sounding mission statement: … sharing strength and inspiration to help wipe out heart disease—the No. 1 killer of American women.
The month of February…uh..heluuuu!
Some very cute soup-oriented promotional products:

But the best thing about Campbell’s “Go Red With Campbell” is their “Design Your Own Red Dress” contest:
Go! Design your own red dress…how inspiring would that be! Or just make some soup tonight, I’m sure that would help as well.

This program for women is sexism out of control. Women are always more informed about these kinds of things. To make a program for women and not for men is just dishonest, biased, and sexist. I think that if the AHA gets Gov. money, then it is a shame because they are promoting favoritism.

What they have found Jerry is that 90% of heart disease research was on men.
Then they found out that the same things don’t cause heart disease in men and women.
Therefore, they have to focus on women as a seperate catagory.
Men, no matter how equal we become, will never have to manage their hormone replacement therapy, with birth control, and levels of hormone producing ovaries and estrogen, projesterone and menstration.
See, all of those factors come into WOMEN’s heart disease - but not mens. And if all the funding was going into men’s heart disease - caused by different factors - well, then your mom, sister, wife or daughter dies needlessly because they didn’t focus on what causes heart disease in women separately.
That it’s different doesn’t make it unfair. It only makes it biology.

Jerry-
although I am not affiliated with the American Heart Association, as a member of the media, i have been following this organization for over five years reporting on their accomplishments and the progress our country has made on the treatment for and prevention of heart disease.
It is a shame to see a human being with so much bitterness towards an organization that has arguably done more for the health of male americans than any other organization in the world.
As a fairly well educated and informed woman, i was personallyl shocked to hear that the number one killer of women was not breast cancer (where one out of every eight is diagnosed, and one out of every four diagnosed dies)…..the number one killer of women is heart disease.
Because of the fact that AHA has been in existance since the early 20th century and has never focused on an AWARENESS campaign to reach women, there is a rampant misconception about how serious heart disease is for women…..as well as men. As women we are bombarded with information about breast cancer. It is ONLY because of the incredible awareness campaigns that i started going for routine mammograms this year, and discovered in October that I have breast cancer.
The Go Red for women campaign was only started five years ago, and they have not even touched the tip of the iceberg in the awareness and prevention campaign for women. The only reason I discovered how serious heart disease is for women - and that even more women die of heart disease than breast cancer - is because i publish a magazine and the AHA’s press releases cross my desk.
As a prominent member of the media who has worked with this organization - the AHA - for five straight years, I find them to be one of the most progressive and well funded charitable organizations in the world - and one who is an exceptional steward of their charge and the money they are entrusted with.
Just a few short years ago, President Bill Clinton signed on with AHA to target lower income children in the south who traditionally have higher fat diets in order to create an awareness and education campaign directly with the young people who can make healthier choices.
Heart disease is not biased towards race, sex or socio-economic status. You sir, obviously are…and quite jadedly so. God bless the American Heart Association for all they do for every American — man or woman, child or senior citizen - to make our country a healthier place to live, and for being directly responsible for saving millions of lives.
What a pity it is that the dedicated underpaid workers and hard working volunteers have to read your email. What a pity it is you are so jaded towards women, and have such a limited and bitter perspective on life. It seems all the heart disease funding in the world could not fix what ails you anyway.
